Difference between normal delivery and scissor delivery

January 24th, 2012

Being pregnant is the most wonderful time for a woman as she gets pampered by each and everyone she meets. During that time even the person on the street who does not known her will give her care and importance. Giving birth to a baby is a pride, an intense strong feeling a mother goes through. This is the time, when she should take a complete balanced diet, complete rest (minimum 9 hrs sleep); she must be happy all the time so that the baby in her womb is happy as well as healthy.

Pregnancy is a nine month period, where a woman goes through lot of emotions and anxiousness. Along with this, her physical attire changes and she matures enough to become a mother. Her life transforms from a lady to a mother, as the time passes her delivery gets closer.

When it comes to giving birth to a baby, everyone is aware of two possibilities that is one is ‘normal delivery’ and the second one is ‘scissor delivery’.

A pregnant woman has her normal delivery between 36th weeks to her 39th week or it can be also said as 38 or 41 weeks post LMP. A survey conducted has shown that there are only two third of pregnant women who give birth to their baby within the 36th week and 39th week of their expected baby birth date. In addition to this, it was also seen that eighty percent of the pregnant woman give birth to a baby within the 1 month of the expected baby birth date.

Normal delivery comprises three periods, which are dilation period, press & expulsion period and post birth period. When a baby’s head ranges at the wide section of pelvic muscle of the mother, normal delivery takes place. As normal delivery has three phases, during the first phase the head of the baby will develop and with the end of final phase that is post birth period, baby’s head will rotate up t 90 degrees.

The other type of delivery is ‘scissor delivery’- In scissor delivery a surgery is required to carry out. Scissor delivery is done because of the size of the bone structure the mother has. Baby’s head is bigger compared to size of mothers bone structure, therefore the baby’s head is upward and it is impossible to have a normal delivery. A surgical incision is created on mother’s tummy for the purpose of delivering the baby from the uterus.

It is also said that a scissor delivery is sometimes risky than the normal delivery. No matter what pain a mother goes through during delivery but after giving birth to a wonderful beautiful baby, the pain vanishes.

Chiropractic and skin care during pregnancy is very important

January 10th, 2012

Pregnancy is blissful state in a woman’s life. This blissful state involves a lot of care and protection. Significantly, health of a mother plays a crucial role in development of the embryo into a healthy child. From skin care to dental health, everything becomes important during prenatal period. As we all know, this crucial phase of gestation lasts up to nine months, this period can be divided into three trimesters.

If you too are pregnant mother, then this article aims at guiding you about how to take a proper care during pregnancy. The last thong expecting mothers care about is their skin products they use. It must be know that each and every thing affects your pregnancy, so in order to make these effects positive, try to follow our tips of avoiding harmful skin cosmetics and chiropractic health; they will help you and your child as well.

Avoid using cosmetics that have retinoid. These are the powerful substance generally found in anti-aging moisturizers as they are helpful in reducing wrinkles and prevent skin from cracking down. Studies show that the retinoid contain high dosage of vitamin A and it can therefore be harmful for the unborn child in the womb and can result into complications during child birth.

Second problematic agent is Salicylic acid. The substance though has a specific usage as a cosmetic but is in largely in use for treating acne and pimples. This acid is used while manufacturing cleansers and toners. Doctors say if this acid penetrates deep into blood through the skin pores it can not only react but can harm child’s development. Since the acid belongs to the aspirin family, too much usage of it can cause effects similar to taking too many aspirins in a day.

Now let’s talk about some chiropractic care during pregnancy. Chiropractic is a medical system based on the theory that disease and disorders are caused by a misalignment of the bones, especially in the spine, that obstructs proper nerve functions. During pregnancy, the proper care of endocrinology has to be taken to adapt the changes that occur in women’s body, while preparing for the development of the baby. The following changes could result in askew spine or joints:

  • Pelvic changes
  • Postural adaptations
  • Protruding abdomen and increased back curve

It is pivotal to establish good pelvic balance and to make sure that you maintain your balance; it’s safe to ask chiropractic’s help over the issue. An askew pelvis can hinder the development of the baby, as it might reduce the amount of room available for the development of the baby. Or a misaligned pelvis may also make it difficult to deliver the baby at the time of delivery as it may stop baby from getting to the opening. This can also affect a mother’s ability to have a natural vaginal delivery, forcing her to opt for caesarean.

While reading about care during pregnancy you will get hundreds of article talking about food habits and other luxurious care like spa treatments and parlor sessions but very few articles will actually lead you to the proper health care guide. Following them will make sure you have no complications during delivery.

Bio-Technology helps in preserving umbilical cord stem cells for treating threatening diseases

December 6th, 2011

Thanks to bio-technology that has ensured us with promising cure for diseases like leukemia and diabetes. Doctors have been able to preserve umbilical cord blood stem cells through bio-technologically updated preservation techniques. All the public and private banks use this technique. Preservation of the unspecialized stem cells is done in laboratories that are regenerative in nature and can give rise to specialized cells that help in treating leukemia. The cells are preserved within 10 minutes after a mother gives birth to her child. After the cord is collected, it is sent to the laboratories to be cryopreserved. There are several procedures to preserve the blood stem; in some process the red blood cells are removed from the cord blood and preserve it without red blood cells, while some other process involve preservation with the red blood cells.

Different doctors and scientists have different opinion about which is the best preservation technique, both the process has been successful for preserving blood stem cells for future usage.

A cryopreservant is added to the cord blood that allows stem cells to survive the cryogenic process. After the process is complete the unit is left to cool down at -90˚ C. Then it is kept in liquid-nitrogen tanks that keep it frozen at -196˚ C. This process keeps the cells alive for years. In its preservation code of technique, the process is much similar to the bone-marrow preservations.

It is a painless procedure that is largely supported by people over bone marrow transplantation. Stem cells from cord blood are much simple to get because they are voluntarily obtained from the placenta at the time of delivery with the consent of mother.

Both private and public preservation banks offer facilities for preservation of Umbilical cord blood stem cells. Public banks take universal donors, while private banks take limited people to bank with. Medical community prefers public banks because the cords in public banks are for universal usage and can be used for treating unanimous patients. A broader range of recipients may benefit from cord blood stem cells, therefore, banked stem cells from cord blood can be more readily available and this can be especially crucial for patients with severe cases of leukemia, anemia or immune deficiency who would, otherwise die before a match can be found. Cord blood also is less likely to contain certain infectious agents like some viruses that can pose a risk to transplant recipients.

These cells are stimulated in body through a tube or a central line that goes into the seam in the patient’s chest. The transplanted cells move into the spaces inside the bones and create new marrow. These grow and make healthy new red blood cells platelets and white blood platelets. These umbilical cord blood stem cells are an exact genetic match for the child. Therefore, preserving them they guarantee a source of perfectly matched stem cells in the event that they develop a life threatening disease that could be treated using these cells.
