The two day annual festival of the Biotechnology Department started on October 28, 2009. The extravaganza was by the students and for the students. The day was observed by discussing at length the growing importance of biotechnology in the present day world by eminent personalities of the concerned field. The students were enlightened with the latest advancements in biotechnology.

The eminent guests who visited the fest included hon’ble Ms. Dhara Jaipuria, Chairperson and Managing Director, Cryo Banks International India, Dr. Mrinalini Chaturvedi, Ditector, Cryo Banks International, Gurgaon, Dr. Kavita Chatterjee, Faculty Incharge Main Blood Bank AIIMS, Dr. Satya Pal Arora, Patent Attorney of International Property Rights (IPR) and Dr. A. K. Srivastava, Director, Amity Institute of Biotechnology was also present on the occasion.

Ms. Dhara Jaipuria, Chairperson and Managing Director, Cryo Banks International India is an eminent educationist and a philanthropist. She said, “Biotechnology is close to my heart and I am associated with it for a long time. The future of medicine lies in biotechnology. Biotech is a ray of hope for many diseases. We tried to tie up with the doctors of the globe to bring solution to many deadly diseases. People from all the strata of the society should be benefited by its research. I applaud the student’s community.”

Dr. Kavita Chatterjee, Faculty Incharge Main Blood Bank AIIMS has done lot of researches in the field of Therapeutic Science. While enlightening the students she said, “development in the field of biotechnology will cure many incurable diseases and millions of people would be relying on it. In the last 3 years Biotechnology has developed tremendously. I congratulate Amity for preparing 3,500 students of Biotechnology Department who would be the future of Biotechnology of our country. With a visionary like Dr. Ashok Chauhan there will be advancement in this field in India.”

Dr. A.K. Srivastav, Director, Amity Institute of Biotechnology was of the opinion that the problems that are faced in the health care sector are to be taken care off. Our biotechnology department is doing lot of research work on it. He also said that any disease cannot be detected only through blood test but in-depth research needs to be done which only biotechnology can do it. He informed that in the last one year Amity University has filed over 120 patents in the area of medicine, Biotechnology, plants, etc.

Debate competition was also conducted on “Stem Cell Research” which was followed by interactive question -answer session between the debaters and the audiences.
